Find the perfect therapy for the stage of life you are living
Very few people can get under our skin quite like our partners! Often the closer we are to someone, the more we make generalizations and assumptions about them, about ourselves, and about the way we interact. Then there are the more complex issues of different parenting styles, infidelity or domestic abuse. When working with couples, the work we do takes a slightly different focus than what we use for individual therapy. This happens because we understand there are different interests that need to be discussed and balanced, and this involves a dynamic not present in individual counselling. At Merge Programs, we offer couples interventions that draw upon a number of different formats, to best meet the needs and styles of our clients. Couples sessions will often run for longer as there are two different perspectives to cover in the session. All of this is explained and discussed in the course of the therapy, so that each party feels heard and understood.
There are so many stressors that impact our adult life. These include family, work, and our physical health. Sometimes there are noticeable symptoms triggered by the pressures and stressors in our life, while at other times, managing life itself can seem overwhelming and isolating. One of the most common things is to have a sense of feeling sad or worried, but realising that there isn’t anything specific to be sad or worried about. It may be that we notice we are not doing as well as our friends and family seem to be doing. Irrespective of the presenting issues, we work in collaboration with our clients to find the reasons they are searching for, and work to formulate a plan as to how these can be addressed.
Often parents may be concerned that their child is showing different behaviours than their older / younger siblings, or perhaps teachers have given feedback about specific behaviours in class. There may be times when your child has been through a difficult life experience and parents / caregivers would like to provide a structure and framework for their child’s recovery. Merge Programs will work with the caregivers, children, and other treating practitioners, to develop a program of treatment that will support behavioural change for both the child, and the system in which they live. This may involve one on one therapy with your child, school observation sessions (if relevant), one on one sessions with parents / caregivers, or group programs designed to build specific skills.
